Kelekar presented 42nd Jnanpith Award

Famous Konkani writer Ravindra Kelekar was presented Jnanpith Award by Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar. Kelkar is 85 years old and wrote around 32 books so far. He was given Rs 7 lakh, a citation plaque and a bronze replica of Goddess Saraswati. He was awarded in a function held in Punji. He is awarded with the award for the year 2006. He is the first in Konkani language who got this presitigious award.
He has been awarded with Padma Bhushan, Gomant Sharada Award of Kala Academy, Sahitya Akademi Award (1976), and Sahitya Akademi Fellowship. His books are Navi Shala, Himalayant, Katha ani Kanyo, Tulshi, Velevoilio Ghulo, Bhaja Govindam, Teen eke Teen, Lala Bala, Brahmandantlem Tandav, Panthastha, Samidha, Vothambe, Sarjakachi Antar Katha, Uzvadeche Sur, Bhashechem Samaj Shashtra, Mukti, Satyagrah, Mangal Prabhat, Mahatma, Ashe Ashille Gandhiji, to name a few.
