Sindhi Academy, Delhi
The Sindhi Academy was established by the erstwhile Delhi Administration now Govt.of NCT of Delhi as an autonomous organisation in the year 1994 for propagation, promotion and development of Sindhi language, literature and culture as an integral part of composite culture of Union Territory of Delhi. Ever since its inception the Academy has been playing a catalytic role in the proliferation of the Sindhi literary and cultural activities in the sphere of music, folk dances, seminars, symposia, short story, poetry, novel, literary criticism, drama etc. Our goal is to achieve all-round development of Sindhi language, literature and culture in the Union Territory of Delhi. During the last few years, the Academy has assumed a significant role and status of premier organisation in the field of Sindhi language, literature and culture.
To plan the schemes and activities of the Sindhi Academy, the Chairperson of the Academy (hon’ble Chief Minister) nominates 20 members to its Governing Council for two years. The members of the Governing Council include renowned litterateurs, authors, poets, journalists and cultural activists. All the schemes and budget of the Academy is approved by Governing Council. Besides Sub-Committees are constituted which ensure that selection of the beneficiaries is transparent.
The main objective is to implement the various programmes for development and promotion of Sindhi language, literature and culture in Delhi.
Sindhi Academy organises Seminars, Conferences, Workshops, Kavi Sammelan and Cultural Programmes etc. Besides this, elocution contests and competitions for the Schools and College students as well as young poets and writers are organised. The other activities are as under:
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
The following financial assistance is given by the Academy:
a. Prizes & Awards
b. Publication of books
c. Libraries
d. Research Centres
e. Research Fellowship
f. Financial assistance for publication of books for writers amounting to Rs.10,000/.Sponsorship of programmes to the NGOs depending on the nature of the programmes.
The following schemes have been prepared to involve the writers and creative youth in these programmes:
a. Cultural programmes on literary theme.
b. Seminars, lectures and publications on Sindhi literature.
c. Organising of Seminars, Conferences & Workshops on Sindhi Education & Culture
d. Organising various activities for school students.
e. Preparation of audio/video/photo Library & documentation of interviews of eminent Sindhi writers/artists/social workers.
f. Organising of Sindhi drama festival, drama workshop, Film festival, Lok Utsav etc.
g. Publication of quarterly magazine, news letter, monthly magazine for children & publication of award winning books from Central Sahitya Academy in Devnagari script, preservation of folk-literature.
h. In order to attract buyers and propagate its publication, the Academy participates in Book Fairs at all India level organised by institutions like Book Trust of India. The Academy at its own, organises Book Fairs and invites other Publishers for participation at free of cost.
i. While maintaining its leading role in promotion and preservation of Sindhi culture, the Academy has assumed a basic responsibility for development of Sindhi language at the grass root level. Sindhi Teaching classes are arranged in almost all the parts of Delhi with the co-operation of Sindhi Panchayats and Associations in Schools, Panchayat Ghars and Jhulelal Temples etc.
Scheme for aged people
In our community, there are huge number of aged persons, we can accommodate their services in our various schemes. It is proposed that monthly pension scheme can be implemented for old Sindhi writers who doesn’t have any other source of income. There are so many knowledgeable Sindhi knowing old aged persons who have been migrated from Sindh and have a wide knowledge about the Sindhi script etc. It is also proposed to take their services in the field of Sindhi teaching.
Scheme for young people
It is proposed to implement various programmes/activities benefitting the young generation and create awareness about the Sindhi culture, language, literature, art and education. It is proposed to organise educational programmes, workshops and Seminars.
Scheme for weaker section of the Society
It is proposed to arrange programmes fully financed by the Academy for the welfare of weaker section of the society and the artists, writers and needy students may be granted scholarships.
Computer Training Scheme
Sindhi Academy is running three research centres in Delhi where Computer Training could be imparted to Sindhi knowing people. Sindhi Software is available in the market. These computers & software can be provided to research centres and few more research centres are proposed to be established in various parts of the country.
Inter State Cultural Programmes
Academy proposes to reach out to various States outside Delhi by organising cultural programmes of renowned artists. This can be achieved in collaboration with the other State Academies/Associations.
International Academic Seminars
Many Sindhi scholars are residing in foreign countries like USA, Dubai and Pakistan etc. Literary gatherings are proposed to be organised so as to exchange views of scholarly talents.
Programme on Television/Radio
The Sindhi Academy proposes to introduce a Radio programme on FM./Vividh Bharti channel of All India Radio, Delhi. The programme will include Sindhi music and ethos. In addition there is also a proposal to record the programmes organised by the Academy on Beta format. The recordings of these programmes can be released on any of the Channels.
Improvement in existing schemes
Improvement in existing schemes of Sindhi Academy Delhi could be made keeping in view the standard of artists performance-their name, fame and quality so that people could attract and take due interest.
