The shameful killing of Inspector Indwaar has shocked the nation. I feel very sorry for family and well wishers of Inspector Francis Indvar. I wonder whether the government was tough or indecisive. If it was tough, then toughness shown by the government must continue and the home ministry shouldn’t do a flip-flop on the issue.
Lack of consistency in toughness has been our hallmark over the years. I am not at all convinced that our govt can take a stand as consistent and firm as US or Israel. In 1980s we sacrificed a diplomat Ravindra Mhatre and remained firm enough to not to release Muqbul Butt. In fact he was hanged within a week. That was Mrs Indira Gandhi, a tough, no-nonsense leader. But afterwards successive governments succumbed to pressures on various other occasions and released terrorists during Hazratbal seige,Kandhar Plane hijack and many other undisclosed hostage swap situations(It’s my presumption).
We are keeping Afzal Guru alive to provide Let an opportunity to take some new hostages and bargain hard.
Here, there are two issues
1. Was the government rigid in it’s stand? or
2. Is it inefficiency of our security forces to effectively deal with the situation where one of their own officers was made hostage and they could not locate whereabouts of the culprits in our own land. I believe that the latter is the truth.
Poor inspector had to die because he was tribal from Jharkhand, a far off place. Had he been educated in DU/JNU, had media connections or had this case been in Delhi/Mumbai where the TV journos would have used his hostage situation as their TRP building excercise(Running EXCLUSIVE STORY and a stopwatch showing how many hours has elapsed since his disappearance, showing thousands of people protesting over the issue(Just send 3 OB Vans and 20-25 cameras about thousand people will assemble in no time), our government would have taken the matter in different way and I think the fate of the inspector would have been different.

Actually our security forces r plain inefficient. they r wasting most of their energy in v.i.p. security, as if rest of us r unimportant. This country is so much obsessed with so called v.i.p.s. Every other day traffic is blocked here and there, taking the the citizen 2 ransome. what a shame that they can’t save their own people!Francis induar was a small time cop,who had a limited existence anyway. Our problem is that we don’t care 4 the digniity of the common man.And nobody cares 4 the police reforms after 60 years.
